How to Calculate the Quantity of Cement , Sand & Aggregate in Concrete Mix ?

How to Calculate the Quantity of Cement , Sand and Aggregate in Concrete Mix ?

Mix design is a process of determining the right quality materials and their relative proportions to prepare concrete of desired properties like workability , strength, setting time and durability.

Lets see how to calculate the quantities for 1 cubic meter of concrete ?

Firstly we should  know about different grades of concrete. Based on strength , Grades of concrete is  classified . As Per IS 456:2000 the concrete of different grades are as following :-

                                 Grade                 Mix Proportion
                                        M5                       1:5:10
                                  M7.5                    1:4:8
                                  M10                     1:3:6
                                  M15                     1:2:4
                                  M20                     1:1.5:3
                                  M25                     1:1:2

For Example:- M25 in this M is known as Mix Proportion and
25 is known as Compressive Strength of Concrete .

Now let us consider M25 grade concrete .
As per IS 456:2000 M25 Grade concrete proportion=1 : 1 : 2
We have to add all the volume to know the total volume = 1 + 1 + 2 = 5
Volume of one cube which having length×width×height =     1 m3(wet volume)
If Wet volume is converted into dry volume then the dry volume is increased 54% of wet volume.
Dry volume =1+(54/100×1)=1.54 m3

Finally for M25 Grade concrete we need
                            Cement     :-  554.4 Kgs.
                            Sand          :-  616 Kgs.
                            Aggregate  :-  1201 Kgs.
